Dangling describes something hanging loosely, often swinging a little, and not attached firmly at the bottom — dangling , or legs dangling off the edge of a wall. In grammar class, you might also hear about a 'dangling modifier' — a phrase placed so in a sentence that it seems to describe the wrong thing.
