    A dairymaid was a woman who worked in a dairy in the past: cows, cream, making butter and cheese. It is an old job word. You meet it in farm stories and history, not in today's job ads. Maid here means a working woman, often a young one, not “a woman who is not married,” though those two ideas used to sit close together. Today we would just say she works on a dairy farm. The word feels rural and dated, and a little story-book.
