If something is cylindrical, it has the shape of a cylinder: think of a tin can, a battery, a rolling pin, a cardboard tube. The sides go straight up; the two ends are circles; if you lay it down, it can roll. A ball is not cylindrical (a ball is round all over). A plate is not cylindrical (that is just a flat circle). Maths teachers and science books like this word; in daily life people often say “tube-shaped” or “like a can.” It is a calm describing word — no slang, no feeling baked in. It only tells you the shape.
