A cycleway is a road or path for bicycles, sometimes a long one, running beside a road or off on its own, through a park or along a river. Planners, signs, and maps use this word; many everyday speakers just say bike path or bike lane. Though actually, those are not always the same thing. A bike lane is often only paint on the road, with cars still close; a cycleway may be set apart, and some stretch for many kilometres. You will hear cycleway more in British and official writing than in American speech, which leans to bike path or bike lane.
