Cybernetic is the describing word for cybernetics: the science of how information is moved around and used to steer a system — a machine, a brain, or a nervous system. The old Greek picture is steering a ship: you look at where you are going, then you turn the wheel. A heater that switches off when a room is warm enough is a simple cybernetic idea; so is the way your body keeps its temperature steady. You meet the word in science writing and in films. Though actually, everyday talk often stretches it to mean “robot-like” or “full of computers.” The science is older and wider than that. English first recorded the word in 1948, and it is about control and feedback, not only chips. If you only need an internet word, cyber is the everyday one; cybernetic is the science word.
組成Not a modern split like cyber + net. Borrowed from Ancient Greek kubernētikós (“good at steering, a good pilot”), from kubernáō (“to steer, to guide”). First recorded in English in 1948. The same Greek root sits behind govern.
