Cyberbullying is the activity of using phones, games, social apps, or email to threaten, insult, or shut someone out — on purpose, and often where lots of people can see. It can be mean comments, a fake account, sharing a private photo, or a group piling onto one person. Unlike a fight in the corridor, it can happen at midnight, and the words can be copied and kept. Schools and parents use this word a lot now; it is the normal, slightly careful name for the problem. The related word cyberbully often names the person, or works as a verb. Though actually, one unkind line is still unkind, but teachers usually keep cyberbullying for a pattern: repeated, meant to hurt, hard for the other person to step away from.
