Cyan is a greenish-blue colour — the colour between blue and green. Designers and printers use it a lot: cyan is the C in CMYK, the four inks (cyan, magenta, yellow, black) that make colour on paper. On a screen it often looks bright, like strong sea-blue or turquoise. Dictionaries sometimes call it a dark greenish-blue, after an old Greek blue, but everyday cyan on a laptop is usually quite light and sharp, not navy. You see the word in art class, printing, and computer colours, not much in daily chat. It can be a noun (a cyan) or an adjective (a cyan shirt).

組成A learned borrowing from Ancient Greek κύανος (kúanos), a shade of blue — like cornflower, copper-blue, or lapis. Mycenaean Greek had ku-wa-no; it may go back to a Hittite word for a precious stone, copper, or a blue colour. Modern Greek κυανός (kyanós) is also used for cyan.
