    Land that is cultivable can be used to grow crops: you can work it, plant it, and farm it. Rocky , salt flats, and deep desert are often not cultivable. The word belongs to geography, farming, and news about food and climate. It is a bit formal; a farmer might just say the land is good for growing or can be farmed. It sits next to arable. Arable often means land already used for crops; cultivable stresses that the land could be farmed, even if no one is farming it yet.
