A crest is the highest point of something curved, most often a wave or a hill — "the crest of a wave" is the very top of it, right before it breaks. A crest can also be a small of feathers on top of certain birds' heads, or a symbol or design representing a family, school, or organization, often shown on a badge or shield — a "school crest" or a "family crest."
