A counterfeiter is a person who copies something so that it looks real, in order to trick people. The classic picture is fake money — notes and coins made to pass as the real thing. But a counterfeiter may also copy bags, watches, tickets, papers, or even a signature. The point is not “making a copy for art or practice.” The point is deceit: they want someone to take the fake as genuine. The word is a person-noun; the act is to counterfeit, and the fake thing is a counterfeit. It is a serious, often criminal word, not a joke about a bad drawing.
