A coronet is a small crown. Princes, princesses, and some nobles wear one on very formal occasions, not the big crown that belongs to the king or queen. It often sits lower on the head and looks lighter. You almost only meet the word in writing about royalty, history, or ceremony. The -et is a little-word ending, so the whole thing is “a little crown”. Though actually, horses also have a coronet — the band of skin at the top of the hoof — but that is a different use. Here it is the small crown.
