    When a joke, a film, or a love line is corny, it is trying to be sweet or funny, but it feels old, simple, and a bit silly, because people have heard that kind of thing too many times. Dad jokes are often corny. A film that piles on slow music and easy tears can feel corny too. It is informal, and it is slightly rude in a gentle way: you are saying it is not clever. You can call a person corny, but more often you call the joke or the line corny. Though actually, this meaning does not come from a corn on the foot, and it is not really about eating corn. It comes from corn the grain: cheap jokes used to be printed in mail-order seed catalogues, and people started calling that tired kind of joke corny.
