A cornflower is a wild plant with bright blue flowers, once common in grain fields in Europe. The colour is a clear, slightly blue; people name that colour cornflower blue, and that adjective is how many students will meet the word. Though actually, the corn here is the old English word for grain in general — wheat, , and so on — not the yellow that Americans call corn. The plant grew among those fields. It is not made of , and it has nothing to do with flour. still grow it; wild ones are less common now because farming has changed.
