A corncob is the hard middle of an ear of — the woody part the yellow seeds grow on. After you eat the corn, the cob is what is left. People throw it away, or sometimes dry it; an old-fashioned corncob pipe is a pipe made from that hard middle. This is an ordinary kitchen-and-farm word, mainly American. (British speakers more often say for the plant, but they still understand corncob.) Though actually, on the internet some people also use corncob as a joke verb, from a famous silly 2011 tweet about a man turning into a corncob. That slang is not the classroom meaning.
