A cool-headed person does not get or upset easily. When trouble comes, they stay calm and think. We also say a cool-headed decision or a cool-headed response: the act is steady, not wild. It is a compliment. The opposite idea is hot-headed — quick to get angry. Though actually, cool here is about feelings, not temperature. Someone can have warm manners and still be cool-headed. Cold is a different word: cold can sound or distant. Cool-headed means calm and sensible, and people like that in a leader, a doctor, or a friend in a crisis.
