Conveyancing is the work of changing who owns a house or land — the legal steps, not the moving of furniture. A lawyer or a conveyancer does it: checking the title, writing the contract, registering the new owner. In British and Australian English this is a normal, slightly formal word you see on office doors and in house-buying guides. In the United States people more often say “closing” or talk about title work. Though actually, students who already know convey as “to get an idea across” sometimes think conveyancing is a fancy word for explaining. Here it is strictly about property changing hands. You can also meet conveyancing as a verb form (conveyancing a house), but the noun for the job is the one you will see most.
