Contrariwise means in the opposite way or the opposite direction — the other way round. You can use it for turning something, or for an idea: he thought one thing; she, contrariwise, thought the other. It sounds old or now. You will meet it in older stories more than in the street; Lewis Carroll liked it. In everyday talk people say the other way, the other way round, or on the contrary. Though actually on the contrary pushes back on what was just said; contrariwise can simply mean “in the opposite direction,” without a fight.
