Contractual means agreed in a contract — written into the deal, not just hoped for or said in passing. A contractual duty is one you promised on paper (or in a legally binding agreement). People use it at work and in law: contractual hours, contractual pay, a contractual obligation. It feels formal. Though actually, a lot of everyday jobs have contracts, so the word is common in offices even when nobody is in court. It does not mean “related to shrinking” (the other verb contract, as in muscles). Here the contract is the agreement.
