Conscientiousness is the noun: the quality of being the kind of person who does their duty carefully, not the act of one careful afternoon. Teachers write it on reports; job references like it. It names a habit — you can trust this person with the boring, necessary parts. In psychology it is also one of the “Big Five” personality traits, meaning a tendency to be organised, reliable, and duty-minded; meet that later, and it is still the same core idea. It is formal. Everyday talk more often praises someone as careful or responsible rather than naming the -ness. Do not confuse it with consciousness, which is about being awake and aware.
