1. 1

Conjuring is the skill of doing clever tricks in which things seem to appear, disappear, or change by magic. You can talk about a conjuring trick (one trick) or about conjuring as the whole craft. It is a slightly old-fashioned name for the hobby; people also say magic or magic tricks. Though actually, in everyday English “conjuring up” often does not mean a show at all — it means bringing a picture or a feeling into someone’s mind (“The smell conjured up summer”). This word, on its own, is the stage-skill meaning: the art of the trick, not a crime and not a ghost story.
