A conjurer is a person who entertains you with clever tricks — cards, coins, scarves — so that things seem to appear, disappear, or change as if by magic. It is a slightly old or British-flavoured word for what most people now call a magician. You may also see the spelling conjuror; both are used. Though actually, in older English a conjurer could also be someone who tried to call up spirits; today’s dictionaries mean the stage , not a witch. The tone is light and show-like, not criminal: a conjurer wants you to enjoy being fooled for a moment, then clap.
