Conformation is the shape a thing has, and the way its parts sit together to make that shape. You meet it most in two rather different rooms. With animals — dogs, horses, cattle — judges talk about conformation when they mean: is this body put together the way this kind of animal should be? The back, the legs, the head. With chemistry, conformation is how a molecule is twisted at a given moment; the same molecule can turn into a slightly different shape without breaking, and each twist is a conformation. The everyday word 'shape' will often do. This one is more specialist: how it is built, how it is arranged. It is not a street word.
