If you are conflicted, two strong feelings are pulling you, and you cannot happily choose. It is not that you cannot pick a sandwich. It is that both sides matter: your head may say one thing and your heart another, or two things you believe do not fit this one choice. 'I want to be loyal to my friend, but I also want to tell the truth' — that is conflicted. Adults use it about jobs, family, and right-and-wrong. It sounds a little more careful than 'I don't know.' Though actually, people also use it for smaller mix-ups ('I'm conflicted about the film'), which is a bit loose, but you will hear it. It describes a person, or that person's feelings — not two facts fighting on a page.
