Computerate means you can use a computer well — not just tap a few buttons, but handle it with real ease. It is a mostly British, slightly jokey word, made by blending computer with literate, on the same pattern as numerate (“good with numbers”). Though actually, it never became the everyday word. You may meet it in a newspaper or a light comment about skills, but in ordinary talk, classrooms, and almost every job ad, people say computer-literate instead. Computerate can sound clever and a little old-fashioned at the same time. If you use it, people may need a second to see that you do not mean a “compute rate” or some technical score.
