    If something is compulsory, you must do it. You have no choice, because a law or a rule says so, or because someone in charge tells you to.

    compulsory 講的是「這件事你沒得選，因為上面有規定」。可以想成：有人（法律、學校、老闆）已經替你決定好了，你只要照做。它比 obligatory、mandatory 都日常一些——mandatory 聽起來最硬、最像法律條文，compulsory 是一般人講學校規定、公司規定時最常用的字。相反的一邊是 optional（可以自己選）和 voluntary（自願做的）。
