    Competitiveness is how strongly something or someone competes — wants to win, or is able to win. It works two ways. About a person, it's a personality trait: how much they want to beat others and come out on top, in sports, games, or even everyday situations. About a business, industry, or country, competitiveness means how well it can compete against others in a market — good prices, good quality, or clever ideas that let it succeed against rivals. You'll hear this second sense often in news about economies and companies.
