In a Christian church, a communicant is someone who receives Communion — the bread and wine that stand for Jesus — and who does this as a regular practice, not once by accident. The word belongs to church language, in notices, rolls, and older writing. Though actually, English once used communicate for this same act: to communicate was to take Communion. So a communicant is not “a person who is good at talking.” That trap sits right in the letters, and it is the one to put down first.
