    A colonnade is a row of tall stone posts, standing in a line, that usually hold up a roof or a row of arches. Those posts are columns. Walk along a colonnade and you are walking in a covered path with columns on one side, or both. You see them on old temples, palaces, museums, and grand public buildings — the kind of place a will mention. It is an architecture and travel word, not an everyday word for talking about your house. A single post is a column; a colonnade is the whole row working together.
