Colic is strong pain in the belly, especially in the gut. When people say a baby has colic, they mean the baby cries hard for a long time — often in the evening — and seems to have severe pain in the stomach and bowels, even when the baby is fed and otherwise well. Doctors still do not all agree on the exact cause; it often eases as the baby gets older. Adults can have colic too in medical talk (pain that comes in from the gut or from ), but the meaning meet first is the crying baby. It is a parents-and-doctors word, not a word for ordinary hunger or a little tummy .
組成Borrowed from French colique. Further back it comes from Ancient Greek kōlikós, “suffering in the colon” (the large bowel).
