1. 1

A coffeemaker is an electric machine that makes coffee at home or in an office. You put in water and coffee — often in a paper filter, or a small pod — switch it on, and the machine heats the water and sends the drink into a pot or a cup. This is the everyday drip machine, not a person whose job is to make coffee, and not a simple kettle. In American English you will see coffeemaker as one word, or coffee maker as two. British speakers often say coffee machine for the same thing, especially a bigger office machine. Though actually, in shops the name is messy: the same aisle may call a drip machine a coffeemaker and an machine a coffee machine. In Taiwan, people usually just say 咖啡機 for all of these.
