To arrange laws, principles, or facts into a system you can point to. A government may codify old custom so everyone can read the rule in one place. A coach may codify “how we do things here” into a short list. It is formal. The everyday cousin in computers — “to code”, meaning to write a program — is a different path of the same old word, and mixing the two is the usual slip. Built from code + -ify, “to make into a code”. The matching noun is codification.
