Coca is a South American bush. People pick its leaves. In the , chewing the leaves or drinking them as tea is an old local habit, said to help with tiredness and thin mountain air. The same leaves are also the plant source of the drug cocaine. The bush and the drug are not the same thing: coca is the plant; cocaine is what is made from it. Say it KOH-kuh.
