A co-pilot is the second pilot in a plane. The captain is in charge; the co-pilot sits beside them and shares the flying, the radio talk, and the checks. Airlines also call this person the first officer. On a long flight they take turns, so one person is not tired the whole way.
A co-pilot是 in a plane飛機上 the second pilot的第二位機師。 The captain機長 is in charge負責作主; the co-pilot副機師 sits beside them坐在旁邊, and shares分擔 the flying飛行、 the radio talk無線電通話 and the checks和各項檢查。 Airlines航空公司 also也 call this person把這個人叫作 the first officer。 On a long flight長程飛行時 they他們 take turns輪流來, so這樣 one person才不會有一個人 the whole way一整路 is tired都在累。
Though actually a co-pilot is not a passenger with a map, and not a student watching: they are a trained pilot who can fly the plane. People stretch the word in everyday talk — the friend in the front seat of a car, or someone at work who helps run things but does not have the last word — but the home meaning is still the cockpit.
