A co-pilot is the second pilot in a plane. The captain is in charge; the co-pilot sits beside them and shares the flying, the radio talk, and the checks. Airlines also call this person the first officer. On a long flight they take turns, so one person is not tired the whole way. Though actually a co-pilot is not a passenger with a map, and not a student watching: they are a trained pilot who can fly the plane. People stretch the word in everyday talk — the friend in the front seat of a car, or someone at work who helps run things but does not have the last word — but the home meaning is still the cockpit. You will see the spelling copilot (one word) as well as co-pilot.
「co-pilot」指飛機上的第二位駕駛員，也就是副機師。機長負責全局，副機師坐在他旁邊，一起分擔操控飛機、無線電通話，以及各項檢查。在長途飛行時，兩個人會輪流，讓其中一個人不會整趟都累著。
