A clothier is a person whose work is making or selling clothes, especially men’s clothes, or selling the cloth those clothes are made from. The word is a little old. You will meet it in history, in the name of an old shop, or in formal writing. Today we more often say a shop, a tailor, or a clothing store. Long ago a clothier might deal in the cloth itself as much as in finished jackets and trousers. It does not mean someone who washes clothes.
組成From Middle English clothyer, an alteration of earlier clother, clothere (“a maker or seller of cloth”); equivalent to cloth + -ier.
