A citron is a fruit in the same wide family as the lemon, but it is not a lemon. It is usually bigger, with a very thick, bumpy yellow skin and rather little juice inside. People grow it for the peel, which is often cooked in sugar and put into cakes, and in some traditions the whole fruit is used in festivals. Though actually, if you know French, you must be careful: French citron means lemon. English kept citron for this other, thicker-skinned fruit. You will not see citrons in a normal Taiwan fruit shop the way you see lemons; the word turns up more in cooking, in older books, and when someone is naming plants.
組成Borrowed from French citron (in French, lemon or lime). That came from Latin citrus (the citron tree), probably through Etruscan, from Ancient Greek kédros, “cedar.”
