Chillax means “relax and be calm.” Young people say it, often as a friendly order: Chillax! You use it when a friend is getting too wound up about something small. It is a mix of chill out and relax, and it started showing up around the mid-1990s. It is very informal — fine with friends, almost never in serious writing or with a teacher you do not know well. Though actually, the word already feels a bit old-fashioned to some younger speakers, because joke-slang like this ages fast; the smile in it is part of the meaning.
