Chevy is the short, friendly name for a Chevrolet car. In American English people say it without thinking: he drives a Chevy. The long name Chevrolet sits on the badge and in ads; Chevy is what you hear in songs, films, and ordinary talk. It can mean one car or, a little loosely, the whole brand. It is everyday speech, warm rather than stiff. Though actually, Chevy is not a different company — the cars are the same. In Taiwan the word is 雪佛蘭, but English media will still say Chevy. Keep the capital C: it is a name.
