A cheerleader is a person who leads organised cheering and does dance and gymnastic routines to support a sports team, usually at American football or basketball games. The word is also used more widely for anyone who enthusiastically supports a person, idea, or plan, even without doing any of the actual work - 'he's the biggest cheerleader for the new project.'
