    Certitude is the state of being sure, or the feeling of being sure — not a guess, not a hope. Writers use it when they want a weightier noun than everyday certainty: a person speaking with certitude sounds as if the question is already closed. It is a fairly formal, word. Though actually it names how sure someone feels, not whether they are right; people have spoken with great certitude and still been wrong. You cannot “certitude” something — it is a noun, a state.
