Ceremonious means done in a formal, serious way, as if you were in a ceremony: slow, polite, a little stiff, with a sense that the moment matters. A ceremonious bow. A ceremonious welcome. The word is a bit literary; in daily talk people more often say formal or solemn. Though actually, it can carry a slight smile. If someone is too ceremonious at a kitchen table, they are putting on more ritual than the situation needs. Do not mix it with ceremonial. Ceremonial usually describes things that belong to a ceremony — ceremonial dress, a ceremonial role. Ceremonious describes the manner: full of ceremony, sometimes overly so.
