    The cerebellum is a part of your brain at the back and a little underneath, smaller than the main mass on top. It helps you move smoothly: keep your balance, time a step, reach for a cup without knocking it over. Doctors and biology teachers use the word; everyday talk just says “the brain.” Though actually, the tidy line “it controls your muscles” is a bit too tidy. Your muscles still work if this part is hurt — you are not frozen — but movement can become , shaky, or badly timed. The Latin name means “little brain,” because it sits like a smaller brain under the bigger one.
