    If someone is catty, they say things about people in a small, sharp way — a little remark that scratches. Informal. The picture is a cat putting out its claws, not a cute pet on your lap. You will hear it about gossip, side comments, and compliments that are not really kind. Dictionaries often mark it as used especially of women; that is how the word has been used, but it is a lazy habit, not a limit. A man can be catty too. It is not a compliment, but it is milder than cruel or vicious: more petty than dangerous.
