Some people use catfight for a fight between two women — often with the picture that they scratch and pull hair, like cats, rather than hit with fists the way men are imagined to. That picture is unfair, and many people find the word rude or sexist; they hear it as a way to make women look small and silly. It is informal gossip-and-TV English, not a kind word, and not a fair one. Though actually it can also mean a real fight between cats, which is the plain older reading; when the subject is people, the sting is the point. If you want to be decent, say they argued, or they fought, and leave the cats out of it.
