Castration is the act of , or the state that follows: the have been removed. You meet it in farming, in medicine, and in history (eunuchs, those singers). Though actually, writers also use it as a picture-word for stripping someone or something of power — and in later study you may meet 'castration anxiety' in psychology, which is not about a real operation. Those extra uses are easy to over-read; the core meaning is the body one.
