Cast-off describes clothes or other things that nobody wants any more — they have been given up or thrown away. “Cast-off clothes” are the ones you have finished with. It comes from the verb cast off, “to throw off / let go.” It can feel a little old-fashioned or story-like; in shops people more often say second-hand or used. Though actually, cast-off is not always : a cast-off jumper might still be perfectly good, just not wanted by the first owner. The instruction to finish the stitches is usually written as two words, cast off, with no — that is a verb, not this adjective.
cast-off 形容不要了、被淘汰的東西，多指衣服，也就是已經被主人放手或丟掉的東西，像「cast-off clothes」（不要的舊衣）。它來自片語動詞 cast off，意思是丟掉、放手。這個詞有點老派，像故事裡的用語；店裡通常會說 second-hand 或 used。
它不一定是負面的，例句「a cast-off jumper might still be perfectly good」，意思是一件被丟掉的毛衣，可能還是很好的，只是原本的主人不想要了。織毛線收針時的 cast off 是兩個字的動詞，寫法不加連字號，跟這裡的形容詞不同。
