A machine in a wall that gives you money when you put your card in and type your number — what Taiwan calls an ATM. This is the British word, and it is a small history lesson: Cashpoint was a trademark of Lloyds Bank, who put in their machines in 1972. The name escaped the bank. People started calling every machine a Cashpoint, whichever bank owned it, the way people say Sharpie or 宅急便 for things made by other companies. That is why you sometimes see it with a capital C and sometimes without. In Britain you also hear "cash machine" and "hole in the wall"; Americans say ATM and would not recognise Cashpoint at all. In Taiwan, everyone says ATM, including in Chinese, so this is a word to understand when you hear a British person say it rather than one to use yourself.
