A careerist is a person who treats their career as more important than anything else, often in a way other people dislike. You can also use it as an adjective: careerist behaviour, a careerist move. The tone is usually cold, not — it hints that the person will step on others, or drop what they said they believed, in order to climb. In casual talk people say someone is only in it for themselves, or only wants to get ahead. Though actually, it is not simply “a person who has a career.” Almost everyone has a job path. The sting is in the “above everything else.” is the habit; a careerist is the person.
