1. 1

Cardiff is the capital of Wales, and its biggest city and main port, on the south coast. It grew as an industrial city, especially around coal, and it is also a place people visit: a castle, a cathedral, a university, and a huge stadium where Wales play rugby. That stadium was long called the Millennium Stadium; many people still say that, though its sponsored name is now Principality Stadium. In English you use Cardiff like any city name: in Cardiff, from Cardiff. The English stress is on the first part: KAR-diff. Welsh speakers call it Caerdydd.
