Cardiac means “about the heart” as a body part — the organ that pumps blood — not about feelings or “heart” as in love. Doctors say cardiac arrest (the heart stops), cardiac surgery, a cardiac patient, the cardiac ward. You will hear it in hospitals, health news, and biology class. Informal English prefers heart: heart attack, heart problem, heart doctor. It is a cool, technical adjective, not a warm everyday one. Hospital talk sometimes uses cardiac as a noun for a heart patient (“a cardiac on the ward”), but the sense you are learning is the adjective: relating to the heart.
