A captive is a person, or an animal, who is held prisoner and cannot leave — captured and kept somewhere against their will. 'Captive' can also be an adjective: a captive animal lives in a cage or zoo, not in the wild ('captive breeding' means breeding animals in zoos to help a species survive). There's a useful phrase, 'captive audience' — people who must listen to you because they cannot leave, like passengers on a plane.
